China — The Government Flying Service has deployed a helicopter to drop water on a forest fire that has been raging for more than 18 hours in Pat Sin Leng Country Park near Tai Po.
The blaze, which has reportedly affected some six hectares of parkland, had been contained by 11.30am on Monday but was not yet out, according to the government.
The remaining fire has been reduced to a front about 200 metres in length, the government said.
Authorities were first alerted at about 5pm on Sunday to a fire on a hillside in Ping Shan Tsai in the southwestern part of the country park.
Firefighters struggled to contain the blaze, which eventually split into two fronts of 800 metres and 200 metres length.
The longer front headed towards Sha Lo Tung, in the southwest of the country park, while the shorter front moved towards Hok Tau in the northwestern part of the park.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the fire.
