Pastoralists urged to plan for livestock safety

Australia — Pastoralists are warned there is a rising threat to livestock from summer bushfires.

Two seasons of high rainfall have increased fuel loads across outback areas of South Australia.

Malcolm Anderson from Biosecurity SA says livestock owners need to have safe areas near homesteads and make sure they are using ear tags to identify their stock.

“Certainly the dreadful Victorian bushfires saw … animals wandering around unfenced countryside and where they’re not identified clearly it becomes fairly problematic,” he said.
