South Korea / GFMC — South Korea has won a bid to host an international conference in 2015 to deal with forest fires, government officials said Sunday.
The Korea Forest Service said the country was officially designated as the next venue for the event at the close of the fifth International Wildland Fire Conference (IWFC), held in Sun City, South Africa, on Friday.
The sixth IWFC is expected to bring together 1,500 experts from 80 countries, who will discuss ways to enhance intercontinental cooperation in minimizing damages arising from forest fires.
Started in 1988 following the Yellowstone forest fires in the United States, the IWFC seeks to expand the international fight against forest fires and is held in every four years.
