Australia — Mr Burke has demanded that the state government remove cattle from the park by Friday.

He also asked Premier Ted Baillieu to refer the grazing trial, which he started after winning the November 27 election, for federal environmental impact assessment. While the cattle are due to be removed later this month — the end of the grazing period — they could be back next summer, unless the trial is stopped by federal intervention or abandoned by the state.

Victorian Environment Minister Ryan Smith said the cattle would go by Friday. “The cattle were always coming out in April. The minister has always known that. (He) is simply in competition with the Greens over who can politicise this more. Our focus remains on the use of cattle for bushfire fuel reduction.”
