Peru —  The recent rains in Cusco have contributed to control the forest fire that has started last Sunday in Cerro Calvario, near the Inca sanctuary of Machu Picchu, in the province of Urubamba.

Rains started last night and continued for several hours, which has helped to turn off the fire.

“Now we cannot see the smoke cloud, it seems like the fire is over,” says Fernando Astete, Director of Machu Picchu.

The visits to the Inca citadel and tours to the Inca Trail continued normally.

Astete said that the probable causes are being investigated by the Ecologic Police and the National Service of Protected Areas, to determine the probable causes.
