Australia — The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) is calling for more volunteers to help repair fences on properties damaged during the Victorian bushfires.

Volunteers have so far erected 1,500 kilometres of fences on more than 400 bushfire-affected properties across the state.

The VFF says that represents only about 20 per cent of the work that needs to be done.

VFF president Simon Ramsay says volunteers do not necessarily need fencing experience if they want to help.

“The actual socialisation that goes on between the farmer affected and his family and the volunteers is nearly as important as the work done on the fencing.”
