Australia — Computer and phone systems are down in some parts of Brisbane due to bushfires south of the city.

Fire crews and water-bombing helicopters are battling the blaze at Jerry Downfall Bushland Reserve at Park Ridge South.

Ten crews are on the scene of the fire, which has burned about 70 hectares but is not threatening properties.

However, heat from the fire is affecting power lines, causing “voltage dips” – or power interruptions – around Brisbane.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said the computer and phone systems in her office were down.

“There has been no interruption to any of Brisbane’s hospitals as they all have back-up power,” she said.

“I understand that there’s been about four to five hundred phone calls to the Energex hotline, but there’s been no one who has lost power completely.

“We’re doing everything we can to contain the fire.”
