Cape Town, South Africa — Nine people, including a six-year-old girl, were injured on Monday afternoon in a six car pile-up in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

A 62-year-old driver of a Toyota Conquest slowed down on Parkland Street at 2pm after thick smoke slightly obscured her vision, said spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng. The smoke came from a veld fire near the road.

“Police believe that the driver of the second car N a Ford Bantam – did not see the Conquest and hit it from the back,” said Mokheseng.

Four other cars on the same road were also involved in the pile up.

The injured were taken to hospital.
