The Grampians Region Bushfire Appeal has hit the $40,000 donation mark, thanks to fundraising events and donations from across the state.

Musical, sporting and social fundraising events have been held throughout the region and as far as Daylesford, while donations are rolling in from businesses and individuals who want to make a difference.

“The fact that communities outside the fire-affected region are planning major events off their own bat is quite humbling, Cr Ian Wilson from Ararat Rural City, who is joint chair of the Appeal Committee with Cr Kevin Erwin from Northern Grampians Shire said.

“On behalf of the four shires affected by the bushfires, I would like to thank all event organisers for their extremely valuable efforts.”

Cr Kevin Erwin said he was receiving reports of people making $100 donations out of their own pocket at their local ANZ bank.

“Plus cheques we’re receiving, including one from a pensioner couple in Mitcham, it’s just fantastic.”

Ross Hatton of Deep Lead has been appointed as the co-ordinator for the Grampians Region Bushfire Appeal. He will be co-ordinating all appeal activities from donations and collection tins, to advice on holding fundraising events.

If you have any questions about the appeal, please contact Ross on 0427 094 935.
