SINGAPORE : The haze situation in Singapore has improved considerably.

In the south and eastern parts of Singapore, the Pollutant Standards Index on Thursday fell to 50, which is in the goodrange. The Western part was the most hazy (PSI 58), followed by the north (PSI 57).This pushed up the overall PSI level to 58, which is in the moderate range.

But it was still an improvement over Wednesday’s PSI of 74, which was the highest level recorded in Singapore thisyear. The National Environment Agency attributes the hazy condition to fires detected in Riau and Central Sumatra last Sunday.

It expects the haze to persist over the next few days, adding it should improve when wind direction changes to South-Easterly later in the week.
