Firefighter Safety
USA: Forest Service to Improve Firefighter Safety
(published by the Society of American Foresters, 31 October 2001)
22 October 2001 — The USDA Forest Service issued an action plan October 22 outlining 31 recommendations to improve firefighter safety and coordination during wildfires. The recommendations came in response to the July 10 entrapment of 14 firefighters and two campers in the Thirty Mile Fire in the Cascades in north central Washington State. The Thirty Mile Fire killed four firefighters on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
