GFMC: Global Aerosol Index by Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS)

Global Aerosol Index by
Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS)

5 February 2010

The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) provides a daily update of the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) products. Earth Probe TOMS, launched on 2 July 1996, depicts aerosols emitted from vegetation fires, desert dust storms and other sources. Thus, aerosol signals as seen on the TOMS Aerosol Index maps are not necessarily generated by fires.

The Today’s Aerosol Conditions from Earth Probe provides daily updated global TOMS Aerosol Index maps.

The TOMS Global Aerosol Hot Spots Page, in turn, provides screened close-ups of regions with active fires and smoke emissions from biomass burning (only during fire season).
