14November 2001 — The Senate Energy & Natural Resources Subcommittee onPublic Lands & Forests held a hearing to review a report investigating theThirty Mile Fire in which four USDA Forest Service firefighters died. TheSubcommittee said that the Forest Service failed to implement safety standardsthat were recommended six years ago.
