Police are investigating whether one of two mountain fires on Wednesday was
started deliberately.
One of the firefighters at the scene received a call from a person who claimed he hadseen someone start the fire on the slopes of Table Mountain below Tafelberg Road towards Bellvue Drive.
It is believed that an identity was given to police as well as an address.
Police could not verify on Wednesday night whether any arrests had been made.
A thick cloud of smoke could be seen from the city.
Fortunately there was no wind in the area that could have caused the fire to spread.
Another fire in Porterville was reported to be raging out of control on Wednesdaynight. A farm is in danger.
