São Paulo Firefighters Battle Mountain Forest Fire

BRAZIL – Firefighters in the state of São Paulo battled a forest fire burning on the side of one of Brazil’s highest mountains, video taken on July 17 shows.

This footage, posted by the Corpo de Bombeiros da PMESP, shows firefighting efforts in the vicinity of Pedra da Mina, the fourth highest mountain in Brazil. The peak skirts the border between the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, where the fire began before burning into São Paulo on the morning of July 17.

The area currently burning is remote: according to the firefighting corps, it is only accessible by land via Mina Gerais, a route which requires two days of walking. According to local reports, firefighters, who can be seen in this footage fighting the blaze manually in elevated areas, have been transported by helicopter.
