Losses from fire in Chornobyl reach tens of millions of hryvnias | KyivPost – Ukraine’s Global Voice

UKRAINE- As a result of fires in the exclusion zone of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, losses of tens of millions of hryvnias have been caused, Acting Chairman of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management Kateryna Pavlova has said at an online briefing.

She said that according to the data of the Regional Eastern Europe Fire Monitoring Center as of April 8, about 3,500 hectares of land were covered with fire, and, it is impossible to clarify the figure due to heavy smoke.

“At the moment, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, ministries concerned and the Cabinet of Ministers are working on calculating pecuniary losses. According to preliminary data, the amount reaches tens of millions of hryvnias,” the agency’s press service said.

The main causes of fire accident include a fire that spread to the territory of the exclusion zone from Drevlians Nature Reserve in Zhytomyr region, a short circuit in the zone’s transmission lines and arson.
