INDIA – Hyderabad: Following three incidents of freak forest fires in recent months in the Amrabad Reserve Forest area enroute Srisailam, the Telangana Forest Department created “Sit Outs” for the travelers to take a break rather than inadvertently setting fire to the forest bush while relaxing in undesignated areas.

The department after its inquiry into the recent forest fires identified that few people have entered the reserve forest and even started cooking food causing the fire mishaps. While few threw cigarette butts others have forgot to douse the fire.

“Here after all the travelers must follow government orders and shall not violate the rules. They must travel on the roads and stop at the designated localities meant to take a break. No one will be allowed to walk through the reserve forests,” the department said in a statement here on Saturday. The Department has erected signages to attract the travelers and also created brick sit outs and dining tables for their comfort.

In some places cooking facilities are also given so that the tourists will not set fire to the bush which might turn into a major forest fire. The department is creating drinking water facilities near the sit outs. The Amrabad range forest officers said they will strictly implement the rules and will not allow lighting of fire in the reserve forest area. The department also decided to take up special patrolling in the Amrabad range and Kawal Tiger Reserve area to curb the menace.
