Dust storms suffocate regional areas as bushfire haze chokes Sydney

AUSTRALIA – If you’re in Sydney or Canberra, you’ve probably dealt with that thick and almost unbearable bushfire smoke that’s been choking both cities in recent weeks.

And if you’re not there, chances are you’ve seen those almost apocalyptic images of some of Australia’s most famous landmarks shrouded in a heavy smoke haze.

But in many regional areas, it’s dust storms that have residents and doctors worried – with drought-plagued farmland exposed to high winds.

On the Victoria-New South Wales border, dust storms are now happening on a weekly basis, rather than just a few times a year.
