SPAIN – BENIDORM – Monday afternoon around 5 p.m. a natural and forest fire started in the higher part of the Sierra Helada (Serra Gelada) nature park in Benidorm. Immediately a big alarm was sounded because the fire could become very large and destructive due to the drought and high temperatures. In addition, the sea of flames was close to Aqualandia.

About three hours later at around 8 p.m. the fire brigade was able to report that the fire was under control, but that it had not been completely extinguished. The cause of this new nature and forest fire in the Parque Natural Sierra Helada is not yet known. The smoke could be seen from Benidorm, Alfaz del Pi, Altea and other places along this part of the Costa Blanca.

The fire brigade worked out with large equipment, including four fire trucks and dozens of firefighters. Airplanes and helicopters were also extinguished from the air until dark. Due to the presence of Aqualandia, situation 1 of the Plan Especial frente al Riesgo de Incendios Forestales (PEIF) was activated. It is not yet known how many hectares of nature have been destroyed.
