SPAIN – The small town of Villabuena de Álava still does not explain what happened. He went to bed on Saturday with the scare on the body after a fire broke out in a forest area very close to the town. The firemen of the Diputación did not take in extinguishing the flames, but with the dawn of Sunday many neighbors knew the true reach of the tragedy. The soldiers had found during the work of extinction the body of Liviu, a 19-year-old Moldovan “much loved” in the town. Nobody had yet identified the body, but in a town of 300 inhabitants where everyone knows all the thoughts pointed to the same boy. “We are dismayed,” summed up yesterday residents on a holiday that was overshadowed by the sad news.

The fire originated, for reasons now investigated by the Ertzaintza, minutes before ten o’clock on Saturday night in an area with pines and thickets of this village located in the south of the province, very close to Baños de Ebro and Elciego. Several neighbors were alarmed to see so close the flames and went to work to turn them off. Iñaki Pérez, the mayor of the town, was released as soon as a resident notified him. “We went there and the firefighters of the Diputación were not long in coming,” he said without ceasing to thank the work of the uniformed.

However, the worst was yet to come. Other neighbors also approached the area to collaborate, but the fire took an unexpected turn. “When they finally controlled the flames, the firemen discovered that there was a burnt body.” The Ertzaintza communicated the discovery to the neighbors and invited them to clear the area to initiate the pertinent investigation. Pérez and the rest of the corporation transmitted their condolences to the family, neighbor of Villabuena. The deceased was one of the few young people left in the village. He was born in Moldova but had grown up in Villabuena. «We have seen him grow up and the loss of a nice and educated kid like him is terrible for us, we can not assimilate him», lamented Perez.
«I spent time there»

According to neighbors, the boy, who loves nature, used to “spend time in the area” where the fire broke out. He himself had erected a small wooden construction, very rudimentary, in which he took refuge from time to time. The flames destroyed it almost completely, but among its remains you can appreciate utensils such as grills and frying pans. The Ertzaintza investigates what was the origin of the fire, and the residents of the town asked themselves if it could have had some accident while it prepared something to have dinner.
