Cape Arid bushfire results in closures

AUSTRALIA  – A bushfire advice for the south eastern part of Cape Arid National Park and adjacent Nuytsland Nature Reserve is still in place, with additional roads and tracks closed off.

There is no threat to lives or homes, but there is a lot of smoke in the area.

The bushfire is stationary and controlled but uncontained.

A prescribed burn in 2017 has helped to limit the spread of the fire to the north-east.

There are eight roads and tracks closed to the public.

These are Fisheries Road from the end of Fisheries Road to Israelite Bay, Parmango Road from Fisheries Road to Balladonia Road House , Balladonia Track off Fisheries Road to Mt Ragged, Gora Track to Mt Ragged , Pasley Track through to Telegraph Track to Point Malcolm, Tookinjina Track to Point Malcolm, Israelite Bay to Point Culver and Cape Pasley to Bellinger Island Track.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.

Firefighters are actively fighting the fire and strengthening containment lines.

There are 15 Parks and Wildlife Service firefighters attending.

Aerial support has also been sent to assist ground crews.

The bushfire was caused by lightning on January 13.

There have been 9000 hectares burnt.
