MEXICO – ENSENADA, Baja California (GH) – A total of one thousand 500 hectares have been affected in the forest fire that occurred in the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir, since Monday, July 2 and in which various units participate in a coordinated manner to combat it.

Forest Brigades of the National Forestry Commission (Conafor), the Secretariat of the Navy Navy of Mexico (Semar) and Park Rangers of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp), together with the Secretariat of Environmental Protection (SPA), fight against fire located in the valley of Santa Rosa and Santa Eulalia, 32 kilometers south of the National Astronomical Observatory that is located within the Sierra San Pedro Mártir National Park.

The owner of the SPA, Thelma Castañeda Custodia, said that the 1,500 hectares affected correspond to pine, mixed pine forest and the rest of the chaparral and herbaceous ecosystem; Likewise, he mentioned that the fire has not stopped, because the atmospheric conditions are of low humidity and suction.

He stressed that the Semar, participates with the support of a helicopter for the transfer to the sinister ranger of the Conanp and fighters of fires of the Conafor ..

The official pointed out that the current fire season, which is from May to November, is predicted to be more intense due to the extreme drought never registered in 100 years for the State of Baja California, and the few snowfalls that occurred during the winter season, which may continue to put the National Park and adjacent areas at risk.

That is why citizens recommended taking precautions such as not burning garbage on days with wind and heat, if traveling by road do not throw cigarettes, matches, objects such as bottles, waste, or any kind of combustible material that may cause forest fires.

The Sierra San Pedro Mártir National Park is considered one of the Natural Protected Areas of Baja California, and with the highest degree of conservation and biodiversity in Mexico, whose ecosystems contribute to regulate the climate of the central region and the valleys of La Trinidad, San Telmo and San Quintín.
