ISRAEL – ISRAEL – JNS – A drone packed with explosives and flown into Israeli territory from Gaza was discovered last week, according to an announcement by the Israel Defense Forces.
The drone was discovered in the Sha’ar HaNegev regional several miles from the Gaza border. The drone, which was recovered whole, was possibly intended to target IDF soldiers patrolling in the area.
The announcement came just hours after the IDF neutralized an explosive device at the Gaza-Israel border fence that had been disguised to look like a pair of bolt cutters.
Israel responded to the discovery by firing on an Islamic Jihad position overlooking the site of the bomb, killing three terrorists.
On Saturday morning, four Palestinians were spotted crossing into Israel from southern Gaza. They threw a firebomb and left a tent inside Israel with the message “March of Return: returning to the lands of Palestine.”
IDF soldiers who arrived at the scene opened fire at the infiltrators, who managed to flee back inside Gaza.
Scores of kites outfitted with incendiary devices were flown by Gazans over the border to Israel over the weekend, sparking several brush fires in Israeli fields. Approximately 300 such arson attacks have occurred in the last month.
Military planners are weighing new and more severe responses to the fire attacks.
