USA: Western states have raised over $200,000 for firefighters and victims devastated by wildfires through the popular crowdfunding website GoFundMe.

This covers fires that raging in Oregon, Washington, Montana and California.

Fundraising efforts in Oregon and Washington alone have exceeded $100,000 – with $32,500 in Oregon and $73,000 in Washington as of Thursday morning.

Most notable in the northwest coastal states include the Jolly Mountain and Norse Peak fires in Washington along with the Eagle Creek Fire in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area, although there are dozens of others scattered throughout these states.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Thursday that the U.S. Forest Service’s wildland fire suppression costs have exceeded $2 billion this year, making 2017 the most expensive year on record.

Suppression costs rose from 15 percent of the budget to 55 percent or more, according to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.

This is primarily due to the fires in the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies.
