Columbia —  The Colombian Air Force has become the first Latin American service to operate the Modular Airborne Firefighting System (MAFFS II), developed by Aero Union, on its C-130 Hercules fleet.

The MAFFS II can discharge 3,000 gallons of water, six-times more than the Bambi Bucket used by the Air Force’s helicopters, Anthony Frese, vice-president for business development air mobility and maritime solutions at Lockheed Martin, told Jane’s at the Latin American Aerospace and Defence (LAAD) exposition

“One of its advantages is that it can be incorporated into the Hercules aircraft without making any definitive changes and in an average of three hours, ready to take off”, said Colonel Rodrigo Zapata Romero, the Colombian Air Force’s director of special operations.
