Chile — Numerous wildfires have been burning across the country over the past few days in the central areas, causing damages.

The Chilean National Office for Emergency of the Ministry of Interior and Public Security (ONEMI) reported, as of 14 March at 7.00 UTC, 46 forest fires, of which 22 have been controlled, 17 have been extinguished and 7 remain active. The biggest active fire (locally named Ruta Las Palmas) started on 12 March in Vina del Mar (Valparaiso Region) and has so far burnt an area of 450 ha.

ONEMI reported that, as of 14 March, 16 houses have been damaged and over 6 000 people have been evacuated in the region of Valparaiso.

Over the next 24 hours, high temperatures, dry conditions and moderate winds may still affect the central regions of the country. ONEMI has issued a Red Alert for forest fires in the region of Valparaiso.
