Former Chilean army chief must testify on false forest fire information

CHILE – Former Chilean army chief Jorge Arancibia will testify Wednesday as the accused of disseminating false information after saying that the government knew of the existence of groups that caused the forest fires that affected the center and south of the country. Arancibia made serious statements in an interview with Radio Agricultura, where he assured that the Government knows “who they are and where they are that cause the fires”.
The casualties, which affected central and southern Chile, the largest in the South American country in the last 50 years, left 11 dead, thousands homeless, more than a thousand homes destroyed, and millions of dollars in losses.
The former authority will also have to respond by stating that on the part of La Moneda there is no “political will” to confront these alleged groups.
Before these declarations, the undersecretary of the Interior, Mahmud Aleuy, requested that he be summoned to declare, request that was accepted by the Public Ministry.
The prosecution will be in charge of prosecutors Jose Morales and Andrés Montes, who investigate the false news arising as a result of the fires, since it would constitute the crime of obstructing the clarification of a punishable fact by providing false information.
Meanwhile, the former Admiral indicated to the aforementioned media, that he will go with the “provision to give the maximum of antecedents to Prosecutor’s Office to facilitate his work”.

CHILE El exjefe de la Armada chilena Jorge Arancibia declarará este miércoles, en calidad de imputado por difusión de información falsa, después que dijera que el Gobierno sabía de la existencia de grupos que provocaban los incendios forestales que afectaron el centro y sur del país. Arancibia realizó serias declaraciones en una entrevista con Radio Agricultura, donde aseguró que el Gobierno sabe “quiénes son y dónde están los que provocan los incendios”.
Los siniestros, que afectaron el centro y sur de Chile, los más grandes que ha tenido el país suramericano en los últimos 50 años, dejaron 11 muertos, miles de damnificados, más de un millar de casas destruidas, y millones de dólares en pérdidas.
La ex autoridad tendrá que responder también por afirmar que de parte de La Moneda no existe la “voluntad política” para enfrentar a estos supuestos grupos concertados.
Ante estas declaraciones, el subsecretario del Interior, Mahmud Aleuy, solicitó que se le citase a declarar, petición que fue aceptada por el Ministerio Público.
La diligencia estará a cargo de los fiscales José Morales y Andrés Montes, quienes investigan las noticias falsas surgidas a raíz de los incendios, ya que configuraría el delito de obstaculización del esclarecimiento de un hecho punible mediante la aportación de antecedentes falsos.
En tanto, el ex Almirante indicó al citado medio, que irá con la “disposición de entregar el máximo de antecedentes a Fiscalía para facilitar su trabajo”.
