Villager dies dousing forest fire in loran

India — A 35 year old man Muneer Hussain – died while dousing forest fires in Loran area on Monday evening, reports and police said.

Putting his own life at risk, Munir suffered severe burn injuries during the firefighting operation in Nalla area of Loran tehsil of Poonch district, eyewitnesses said.

They said he was dousing off flames with fellow villagers and a team of police to prevent the fire to spread in the area.

“His clothes suddenly caught fire and he received serious burns all over his body” they said.

The people rushed him to local hospital in Loran where he was declared dead on arrival.

A pal of gloom descended in the area following the tragic incident. The people of the area also expressed concern over involving locals in risky operation without providing them safety gears.

Congress leader and District General Secretary, Taj Mir said that incident of death of man while dousing forest fire is highly unfortunate.

“If he was asked to take part in the operation by any government agency then stern action should be taken against the officials” he said adding the Next of the Kin of the deceased should also be provided adequate compensation.

Former legislator and a resident of Loran, Bashir Naz while terming the incident as highly unfortunate said that deceased had voluntarily joined the fire fighting operation to save green gold but was caught in fire and died.

“We demand adequate compensation for the family of the deceased” Naz said

Meanwhile, confirming the incident ADC Poonch Gurvinder Singh said that the administration would investigate the incident.

“We have received information of the death and administration is finding the exact cause and if it transpires that the civilian were engaged for dousing the flames than action under law will be taken against the concerned department” he added.
