India —  A forest fire has been raging in Kashmir’s mountains for the past three days but there have not been any serious steps taken to stop it from spreading or killing the priceless trees of the region.
Locals are upset that no actions is being taken by the forest department to protect the trees or the locals residing close to the area.

The fire has been raging through Compartment number 80 of Lolab in Zangli Forest Range. A local news agency has reported that the forests of the Lolab region have had been worst affected by the fire.

“Fire has engulfed vast area of forests that includes North Lolab compartment-80. Forest Department is in slumber and no efforts are being made to douse the fire that has turned priceless trees and herbs into ashes,” locals told the news agency.

“We have been continuously informing the Forest authorities; however, no heed is being made to our repeated pleas. Still the compartment-80 is in flames and ironically not a single official from the department is present there to assess the situation and control the fire,” said the locals.

The forest officials statement says that all possible measures will be taken to douse the fire.
