Madagascar / India —  PANAJI: Indian naval ship Trikand of the Western Fleet, while on a goodwill visit to East Africa and southern Indian Ocean, provided succour to more than five thousand citizens of Madagascar affected by bush fires. INS Trikand donated essential food items and medicines to the affected populace, since the ship is always ready to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) during such eventualities.

INS Trikand donated 1000 kilos of rice, 250 litres of milk, two boxes of essential medicines and 100 litres of cooking oil. INS Trikand was at Antsiranana from August 31 to further bilateral ties with Madagascar and was involved with extensive engagements with the Malagasy authorities both in the military and civil arena to boost relations between the nations. A recent calamity at Ambilobe, a region about 140 Km from Antsiranana, saw bush fires resulting in extensive damage to property and livelihood.
