Australia–  Tasmania’s summer bushfire emergency cost $55 million, the state government says.

Treasury has done the sums and come up with the estimate which has been shared by the Tasmanian Fire Service, Parks and Wildlife and Forestry Tasmania, leaving the state about $25 million out of pocket after federal government assistance.

Low rainfall and above average temperatures contributed to the destructive bushfire season during which dry lightning strikes sparked more than 300 blazes.
