Indonesia — Coordinating Minister for Economic Nasution said the government is to speed up the implementation of the one-map policy policy to prevent forest fires.

“This policy is closely related to the effectiveness of forest fire prevention program. The Geospatial Information Agency is currently designing the program,” Dramin said in a statement on Saturday (11/6).

In line with the direction from President Joko Widodo, the first phase of implementation of the policy will be prioritized in Kalimantan.

The map will show villages prone to fire, the Minister said.

However, Darmin added, there is still a mismatch between administrative data and factual data in the field as of now and implementation of the policy is still hampered by the lack of budget in several ministries and agencies.

Therefore, Darmin has asked the National Development Planning Board to include the policy into the national priority programs.

“In terms of finance, the budget for this policy is small. But the urgency of the policy big,“ Darmin added.

After Kalimantan, he said that the government will implement the policy in Sulawesi and Sumatra next year.
