Dozens Of Wildfires Sweep Across Siberia, Russia’s Far East

Russia — As many as 45 wildfires have been reported in Siberia and Russia’s Far East, sweeping across more than 5,900 hectares of land.
Russia’s Federal Forest Protection Service said on May 5 that the largest wildfires were raging in the Far East region of Amur and in Siberia’s Buryatia region.
Wildfires were reported in Siberia’s Zabaikalye, Krasnoyarsk, Tyva, and Tomsk regions.
Authorities also said wildfires were affecting the Sverdlovsk region in the Urals and Russia’s western region of Vologda.
Russia’s wildfire season usually starts in April or May each year and mainly affects thick forests in Siberia and the Far East.
In April 2015, at least 34 people died in southern Siberia and hundreds of others were made homeless by wildfires.
