India–  Massive forest fire in Balnoi sector of Mendhar Tehsil along Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district has triggered massive land mine explosions, police said.

SDPO Mendhar, Shahid Nayeem, told GNS that the massive fire started in the Balnoi sector forests and has engulfed a major portion of the forest.

He said that the flames are touching sky and the fire has triggered massive land mine blasts. “The land mines which have been planted to prevent infiltration are exploding with huge bangs due to fire,” he said.

The SDPO said that an army unit posted in the area is on the job of dousing the fire but so far it has not been controlled. The SDPO alleged that the fire initially started from across the LoC and it was a deliberate attempt to facilitate infiltration.

“The people on other side want that the infiltration routes should get clear and that is why they resort to such things,” he claimed.
