Peru– Firefighters have extinguished a blaze that scorched about 1,500 hectares (3,703 acres) of pastures in Peru’s central Andean region, the emergency management office said.
The land affected by the fire is in Huarica, a district in the region of Pasco, the emergency management office said in a statement.
The fire started around 9:00 p.m. last Thursday at kilometer 348 of the Alto Chupampa highway.
One person was killed and three others suffered smoke inhalation on Saturday while trying to put out the fire in the remote area.
The fatality occurred when a resident helping fight the fire was hit by falling stones.
Two firefighting teams and National Police officers extinguished the fire, working on different fronts, while residents dug ditches to keep the flames from spreading.
