USA —  Lightning storms in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks sparked eight fires since Wednesday, July 1, the National Park Service said Sunday.

Crews were sent to the scene of two of the fires because they’re near the front-country, said spokesman Mike Theune, a fire information and education specialist. The Garfield Fire in the Garfield Grove of giant sequoias was controlled at 0.4 acres, and a crew was monitoring the Dennison Fire burning in a large branch of a giant sequoia.

Theune said most of the fires are single-tree strikes that amount to less than a tenth of an acre. And most are in the wilderness, he said.
