Angola–  The head of the Department of Forest Development Institute (IDF) in Huambo province, Andrade Moreira Bahu, advised against unruly felling of trees for firewood, coal production and frequent fires in this time of the year.

The concern was expressed to ANGOP by the official, explaining that these fires have been made by citizens who do not measure the negative results of this practice, highlighting the ecological unbalance, manifested by human disease and the disappearance of animal and plant species.

According to the forestry official, the situation is more worrying to the extent that citizens put fire on purpose in protected areas, resulting in the deforestation of the province and the disappearance of animal species, with emphasis on the forest perimeter of Cuima in the municipality of Caala, which burned about 500 hectares.
