Ghana — The Tertiary Institution Network (TEIN), a student group of the NDC has described the outbreaks of fire across the countrys markets as worrying.
In a statement, the group noted that, It is a worry that fire outbreaks in Ghana have become a ritual, as well as an economic threat. It is in this regard that we are calling on the general public to assist in minimizing this painful omen. TEIN-NDC, KNUST also commends the H. E President John Mahama in his effort to addressing these frequent fire outbreaks.
TEIN KNUST is calling on H. E. President to create a permanent interagency from the Ghana National Fire Service, Engineers, NADMO, VRA/ECG, Forestry Commission, Police and other relevant agencies that will be responsible for modern sophisticated fire management, ensuring all MMDAs and other institutions are insured. Shall coordinate fire activities across different land management agencies, shall be responsible for the enforcement fire regulations and policies and also mandated to prosecuting offenders.
The interagency coordination shall primary focus on ensure proper measures towards fire prevention and early detection in markets, state institutions, among others where these outbreaks are common, to the virtual exclusion of other in the fire management.
They said, fires outbreaks can be managed and prevented but not totally avoid, and it is in this regard that they are calling for the creation of interagency sole for fire suppression prevention they say is better than cure.
