Wildfires in Russia’s Siberia reduce by almost a third over past 24 hours

Russia — The Siberian Federal District reported 52 forest fires on an area of 53,644.1 hectares as of Thursday morning, the district department of the Federal Forestry Agency (Rosleskhoz) said.
The wildfire rate is the highest in the Trans-Baikal territory – twelve fires burning on 48,150 hectares. There are 13 fires on 2,578.5 hectares in the Krasnoyarsk territory and four fires on 2,229 hectares in the Omsk region, the report runs.
Fires are also raging in Buryatia (eight fires on 267.6 hectares), the Irkutsk region (14 fires on 411 hectares) and one fire on eight hectares in Tuva.
“Wildfires on lands of all categories in the Siberian Federal District spread into 6,337.9 hectares, including 937.3 hectares of forests, over the past day,” the report said.
Twenty-five forest fires were confined to 51,005 hectares, including seven fires to 50,509 hectares in the Trans-Baikal and Krasnoyarsk territories and the Republic of Buryatia.
Some 75 forest fires were put out on 57,522.5 hectares in Buryatia, Tuva, Khakassia, the Trans-Baikal and Krasnoyarsk territories, the Irkutsk, Novosibirsk and Omsk regions.
Hence, the wildfire area in Siberia has declined by almost 30%, from 74, 740 hectares as of Wednesday morning.
A fire alert regime was put into place in six districts of the Trans-Baikal territory, one district of Buryatia and throughout the Republic of Altai and the Omsk, Kemerovo and Irkutsk regions.
