More than 100 forest fires were registered in the Far East during the day

Russia — In the Far East region 111 forest fires were registered per night, 48 of which were eliminated, according to Department of Forestry.

“73 fires were registered in Primorye, 15 in the Amur region, 12 in the Jewish Autonomous Region and 11 in the Khabarovsk region,” said in a statement.

According to the Department, 63 fires have not been put down, 42 of which are in the Primorsky region, six in the Jewish Autonomous Region, seven in the Khabarovsk region, eight in the Amur region.

21 out of the active fires have been localized.

“Area that was damaged by the fire today covers about 3 hectares. Most of the territory is located in the Primorye region,” said in a statement.

It is also announced that yesterday, on April, 17 the chief of Primorsky Krai of Forestry Department was sent to the region to provide guidance in the protection of forests from fires.

More than a thousand people have been involved in eliminating the fire as well as 219 pieces of equipment, 11 aircrafts, including five helicopters.

Since the beginning of the fire season 1006 fires were registered on the territory of more than 90.6 thousand hectares.

For the same period in 2013 eight fires were registered in the area of 715 hectares.
