Chile — Residents of Chile’s capital are suffering from the worst levels of air pollution in 15 years because of fast-spreading forest fires near Santiago.
Agriculture Minister Minister Luis Mayol says there are 47 forest fires still raging in the country. He says evidence indicates they were intentionally set and police are investigating.
The blazes have caused an estimated $100 million in property losses and have affected about 16,000 hectares (40,000 acres) of land.
President Sebastian Pinera called for an emergency meeting with cabinet members on Monday.
