Philippines — Hectares of land at Mt. Isarog Natural Park have been burning since Saturday night even if the fire had stopped spreading at around 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The forest fire continues to engulf the mountain, located at Barangay Harubay, Calabanga, Camarines Sur, with the smoke visible from the towns of Cawaynan at Tinambac.

Around 100 hectares of land at Cawaynan have been hit by the forest fire.

Indigenous trees like lauan at narra make up most of the trees that are planted on the mountain.

It was reported that the Forest Protection officers are working with residents and the Environment Disaster Management and Emergency Response Office in making a fire line.

It was earlier reported that the fire may have been caused by “kaingin” in the area, although investigations continue to uncover the real reason behind the forest fire.
