Sri Lanka — According to the Disaster Management Centre, about 130 bushfires have been reported during the past 7 months.

The Deputy Director of the Centre Pradeep Kodippili told our news team that they’re conducting a survey to find out regarding the destruction.

In the recent past, many bushfires were reported from various parts of the island. The fire which erupted in Rawana Waterfall forest reserve in Badulla has destroyed about 800 acres of land.

The fire which erupted at a forest reserve near Senanayake Samudraya in Ingini-yaa-gala, Ampara was doused with the help of air force helicopters.

Disaster Management Centre stated that it has been difficult to control the fires due to the prevailing dry weather condition.

Fires have constantly erupted in forest reserves in Thalapathkanda – Trincomalee, Thimbiriya – Medagama, Haldummulla and Maaduru-oya.

Expressing his views regarding the matter, the Deputy Director of Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippili stated that the fires are caused by human activities.
