Jamaica — Residents of Bermuda Mount Road in Irish Town, St Andrew have expressed concern for their safety after a Jamaica Public Service (JPS) utility pole in the area was damaged in a bush fire.

The residents claim that despite their warnings that the pole is dangerously perched and appears on the verge of collapse, the utility company has not responded.

Donald Savage, a member of the community, told OBSERVER ONLINE that the fire took place last week Thursday.

“Will harm have to come to someone before action is taken?” Savage questioned.

The high tension wires attached to the damaged pole forms part of the electricity supply serving the communities of Gordon Town, Irish Town, Newcastle, Hollywell, Red Light and other districts in the East Rural St Andrew constituency.
