India — A man working with the Jammu and Kashmir forest department died after battling for life at a Srinagar hospital, an official said on Friday.
He said 44-year-old Nazir Ahmad Shiekh who worked as a helper with the forest department had received serious burn injuries while dousing a fire in compartment 57 of Butgund area in Kulgam district earlier this week.
A massive forest fire had erupted in the region on June 12.
Shiekh had been shifted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar but succumbed to his burns today, he said. His family said that a burning tree had fallen on him while he was dousing the fire.
He id survived by two small children and wife who was also admitted in a hospital for critical heart ailment, they said.
