Volunteer Hungry Valley firefighter dies from a heart attack

USA — The Hungry Valley Volunteer Fire Department’s assistant chief died from a massive heart attack while on duty, the department reported Monday.

Donovan Garcia Jr., 52, died as the result of a heart attack Thursday, said Stacey Montooth, spokeswoman for the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Tribe.

Garcia was participating in a wild land fire training in Hungry Valley when he collapsed, Montooth said. He was pronounced dead at Northern Nevada Medical Center in Sparks.

He had been promoted to assistant fire chief in February, Montooth said.

A viewing is set from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at O’Brien-Rogers and Crosby Funeral Home, 600 W. Second St., in Reno, Montooth said.

Services are planned for11 a.m. Thursday at the Hungry Valley Gymnasium,9070 Eagle Canyon Drive.
