India — Scores of land mines exploded in a massive forest fire in the forward area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir since last night, officials said here.

A police spokesman said that fire started in Baloni from Pakistan-administered Kashmir side and then engulfed several areas on this side of the Line of Control (LoC).

Several areas from Sagra to Baloni, spreading over 2-3 sq km, remained under fire during the day. The Army tried to control the fire today. The fire caused damage to the flora and fauna.

People heard many explosions during the day and last night as well. However, no loss of human life has been reported.

The fire was contained this evening but dense smoke was still visible in the sky in fire-affected ridge line.
