Sri Lanka Air Force deployed to douse forest fire in central hills

Sri Lanka — Sri Lanka Air Force has rendered its assistance to control a forest fire raging in the Hantana area of the central hill country.

The Air Force said it had deployed a Bell 412 helicopter from the SLAF Base Ratmalana Saturday evening around 5:00 p.m. to assist in retarding the spread of the major forest fire erupted in the mountain area.

The helicopter crew of the Bell 412 helicopter equipped with the under-slung ‘Bambi buckets’ had flown 3 consecutive shuttles to bring water from the Polgolla Tank and contained the raging flames.

The Disaster Management Center has sought the assistance of the Air Force to douse the fire.
