India — After hectic efforts the officials of the forest department on Saturday controlled the forest fire in this frontier district.

Divisional Forest Officer, Kehmil division while talking to Greater Kashmir said: “Fire started in compartment No. 55 in Marhama forests of Kralpora this morning. Officials of our department had to put in relentless efforts to put off the fire.”

The DFO said that fortunately fire didn’t cause any major damage to Deodar and Kail (Pine) trees except some loss to the bushes and dry grasses. The department, he said, had pushed its men into service soon after receiving the news of fire in the area.

“With the help of locals we drew fire lines and managed to control the fire. We used the equipments like fire beaters to douse the fire in such a high altitude area where there is no road connectivity or water facility,” the DFO added.
