Australia — Triathlete Emma Moffatt has donated a $2000 prize to the NSW Bushfire Appeal after winning a race at the foot of the fire-ravaged Blue Mountains on Sunday.
Dual Olympian Moffatt, 29, was given the bonus after winning the Nepean Triathlon in Penrith and immediately announced she was giving the money to the appeal.
The Nepean Triathlon, the longest-running triathlon in Australia, was itself under threat of cancellation for the first time in 32 years due to last week’s bushfires.
Moffatt praised the work of NSW firefighters in battling the blazes before confirming her donation.
“I’m from Queensland and watching the bush fires on the television was just devastating and to see the work the fire fighters did was just amazing,” the two-time triathlon world champion said.
“The least I can do is donate my $2000 bonus to the NSW Bushfire Appeal to help out those people who lost everything in the fires.”
